21st century industrial hanger, the first Grand Paris Express operations and maintenance centre is discreetly accommodated under the largest planted roof in France.
With its spectacular volume, its detailed roofs and elevations, it gives an elegant hi-tech image to the new metropolitan network.
Located in Champigny-sur-Marne Plateau light industrial zone, the CEM-CH operates the future Line #15 South.
Located on 8ha site, the building is a key element in the regeneration of the district.
Transfer zone - theatre of automated metro manoeuvres.
(22,000m2) 19 tracks connected to network by tunnel.
Centrally located, vast hangers (17,000m2) accommodate maintenance workshops. Administration is located in its bow; changing rooms, catering facilities, offices and centralised command post – the network nerve centre.
Patrick Rochard, PROJECT ARCHITECT
« Usual in this building type, we decided to eliminate the separation between blue and white-collar worker spaces. The elevations are deliberately homogeneous - quality facilities including the workshops. »
Interior spaces, from floor to ceiling in workshops and offices are well lit
Elevations are clad with ceramic shingles. Their precise layout plays with hollows and reliefs to create an almost kinetic effect. Fourteen northlights are clad in copper.
Built over technical and storage rooms in extension of the maintenance hangar, offices give onto a large patio
Punctuated with gabions, the roof is a santurary for wildlife and plants. The Muséum Nationale d’Histoire Naturelle will monitor it over time.
The planted roof of the CEM-CH extends over more than 2ha. It begins at ground level in extension of the Plateau departmental park. It accommodates a 6,000m2 market garden, whose produce is sold locally, and a vast limestone lawn to ensure a rich local biodiversity
Through the large windows in elevation, nighttime activity within the building can be seen from the street
